Taking care of ourselves

2008-11-08 11:42:54

Karyn
Believe me, in the last year I don't know what I would of done, or how I
would have survived without these groups. Family members see you in pain and
try to help but they just don't "REALLY" know how we feel most of the time. I
know it's hard for them to see us like this. Sometimes in the last year I
have felt like such a burden to them. But they are very supportive. I hope
the rest of you have families like this also.

Confusion

2008-11-08 11:14:44

I found a new Dr. because of info I read here. Also a new specialist.
Did a significant amioubt pf reseah and am going to see specialist
tommorow.
The question is now that I know there is so much conflicting
information and ignorance by doctors how do I prepare for this visit
and what questions should I ask, I've been mis-treated by ny old
doctor for 3 years and basically have to start over,
If anyone can help I'd appreceate any comments I'm pissed at my old
Dr. and scared to hear what the new one has to say.

Stacie, Yes. Every month I could count on being much worse right before and
during my period. I just went through chemo, which threw me into menopause,
so no more cyclic pain increases, but yes, that sure happened to me, every
month for almost 2 years.

poncho - yes i drink LOTS of water and i take Perdiem (100% natural fiber
source). i'd hate to think what kind of shape i'd be in if i didn't. i had
also been having terrible time sleeping. my md gave me script yesterday for
amitriptyline. does anyone else take it?? it seemed to really help, but
then i woke up about 3 a.m. wide awake. maybe it will take a few times for
my
body to get used to it?
Hi Debbie, I take amitriptyline and it helps a lot. It helps me sleep and
also makes me constipated. On the good side amitriptyline helps me sleep,
increases appetite, helps with pain. Helps me cope with all I have to go
through. On the other hand though it makes me very forgetful. I feel like a
real dummy sometimes. I am on 25 mg and I believe that is a very low dose.
It just helps me cope with what I have to live with. I wouldn't stop taking
it for anything. Hope it helps you, Shirley

Re: [pancreatitis] is it pancreatitis?

2008-11-07 06:00:53

hi karen, first thing i would suggest is get a second opinion. i have had cp
for three years now and every symptom you have described is mine. it sounds
like chronic pancreatitis but i am not a doctor.he sounds like most doctors.
they dont want to call it pancreatitis so it must be something else in our
lives. find yourself another doctor. where do you live? there are so many of
us online here someone might be able to suggest a doctor. i live in florida
and i have a pancreatic specialist which has helped me.my previous gi
actually told me he had no idea what was happening to my body so he refered
me to this specialist. when i am going through my attacks there isn't much
they can do for me other than pain control. but he is keeping me at somewhat
a steady level now. get someone who will listen to your complaints and
feelings. it could make all the difference. let us all know where you live.

Hi Shari, my daughter has IBS and her doctor put her on an antispasmodic drug
and Elavil. Elavil is constipating. I take it also and I can vouch for it
being constipating.
